We arrived at Michele's house around 6 PM but Michele was not at home yet. She had been working in a village to the south and was still an hour away. When she arrived, she immediately started to prepare a special 35th Anniversary dinner for us.

The highlight was foie gras, both cooked and pate. Pâté de foie gras was once known as Strasbourg pie in English due to Strasbourg being a major producer.

Michele had already worked 12 hours but willingly set about preparing our celebration. We were overwhelmed that Michele made such a fuss over us - and a little guilty too.

There was an array of cheeses, salad, prawns and, knowing that I didn't like smoked ham, Michele bought some thinly sliced portions of proper ham.

Dessert and wine followed the main course: fresh cherries, raspberry slice and berry pie accompanied by ice cream.

This was a most amazing anniversary. As the sun finally set at around 10 PM, we headed for bed. From midnight in Sydney to midnight in Alsace, it had been a 32 hour anniversary, definitely the longest and one of our best ever.
